The number of hospitalized for covid in the region drops to 17


The infection rate continues to decline and stands at 168 cases. Extremadura adds 225 new cases of coronavirus since Tuesday

New week with decrease in the regional rate of infections by covid and in the number of hospitalized. In the region there are 17 patients admitted for covid, six less than seven days ago. Of the total, two are in intensive care.

The number of admissions is close to the lowest figure of the year, which was recorded last week when the ICUs were empty of coronavirus patients for the third time this year (the previous ones were in June and March). Last Thursday, there were 15 admitted. If we go back further, we would have to go back to November 11 to find a lower figure: 14 hospitalized.

The percentage of occupied beds is 0.56% in acute care and 1.10% in ICU, both figures below the national average, which is 1.88% and 1.64%, respectively.

The cumulative incidence is 168 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days. It drops nine points compared to seven days ago and increases one point compared to Tuesday. The figure is above the national average, which is 149 cases. By age groups, the infection rate stands at 137 cases in people between 60 and 69 years old; of 185 cases among those between 70 and 79 years old; and 202 in those over 80 years of age, according to data provided by the Ministry of Health on the epidemiological situation.

On the other hand, the seven-day index is at 87 points, seven points more than last Friday.

The region has added 225 new cases of coronavirus since last Tuesday (last Friday, the figure was 196 and the previous one, 242). These are infections in people with vulnerability criteria or related to vulnerable areas, the only ones that have already been counted since the new strategy came into force last March. Of the total, 161 are positive in people over 60 years of age.

In the last week, 54 people in Spain have lost their lives due to the virus, four of them in Extremadura.

Another data published by Health in its two weekly reports is the diagnostic tests and the positivity rate. From September 20 to 26, Extremadura has carried out 1,329 tests: 1,209 were antigen tests and the rest, 120, PCR. The percentage of positivity is 20.02%, just over five points above the national average.
