The NY State of Health Open Enrollment Period is here!



New Yorkers can now enroll in Qualified Health Plans for 2022.

Access to health insurance is particularly important as New York continues to face a global pandemic, so all New Yorkers currently enrolled in a Qualified Health Plan through NY State of Health are encouraged to renew their coverage by 2022 .

You may enroll in a Qualified Health Plan during the annual open enrollment period, ending January 31, 2022, or if you are eligible for a special enrollment period. For coverage beginning January 1, 2022, you must enroll by December 15, 2021. Enrollment is open year-round if you are eligible for Medicaid, Child Health Plus, or Essential Plan.

NY State of Health offers free, personalized help to guide you through the process and determine the best plan and financial assistance for which you are eligible. Enrollment assistants are available to assist you over the phone and in some cases in person, keeping in mind the guidelines established during the COVID-19 pandemic.

More than 6.3 million people – or one in three New Yorkers – are enrolled in health coverage through the Marketplace. Between March 2020 and August 2021, an additional 1.4 million people signed up for health coverage through NY State of Health.

All plans offered through the Marketplace cover doctor visits, hospital stays, emergency care, newborn and maternity care, mental health and substance use disorder services, prescription drugs, rehabilitation and habilitation services and devices, laboratory services, preventive and wellness services, chronic disease management, pediatric dental and vision.

And there is good news!

The American Rescue Plan, which became law on March 11, 2021, expands eligibility for financial assistance and increases the amount you can receive, significantly reducing the cost of the monthly premium for qualified health plans available to through NY State of Health for those who qualify. Higher income New Yorkers may qualify for the first time. In 2022, 12 insurers offer Qualified Health Plans and 12 insurers offer the Essential Plan.

The NY State of Health offers Qualified Health Plans (QHP) in four tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Platinum plans generally have the highest premiums and lowest deductibles and copays.

New for 2021, the Essential Plan offers New Yorkers quality coverage with no monthly premium and includes dental and vision benefits for all members. There are no deductibles or low cost sharing.

Certified Enrollment Assistants are available free of charge to guide you through the enrollment process and determine if you are eligible for financial assistance to help pay for your plan.

They are available in every county in the state, in a New York community near you, and work flexible hours.

Free personalized assistance enables clients to understand their health insurance options, compare plans, and make the best decision to protect themselves and their families with affordable health care.

There are three ways to enroll in a health insurance plan through the Marketplace:

1. Call for personalized assistance. You can find this help at info.nystateofhealth.ny.gov/findassistor.

2. Call the NY State of Health Customer Service Center at 1-855-355-5777.

3. You can do it online at NY State Of Health.ny.gov, and you can use the chat feature on the website to help complete your request, available during customer service center hours.
