The Prosecutor’s Office calls to testify those who participated in the tests for local police in Cáceres

The Cáceres Prosecutor’s Office has entered fully into the investigation for alleged leaks in opposition to the Cáceres Local Police. The CSIF union received an anonymous audio in which it was recommended to pay special attention to certain parts of the agenda. The complaint about this alleged leak had been received in the Public Prosecutor’s Office. At the moment, “proceedings are being carried out to clarify the facts.” They have been called to testify “the people involved in them, both those who were aware of this possible leak, and the members of the court,” confirms the chief prosecutor, Marta Abellán.

The investigative proceedings are being carried out for an alleged crime of revealing secrets. The Penal Code establishes fines of one to four years, depending on the seriousness of the case.

Mayor

The mayor of Cáceres also referred to this matter yesterday, in consultation with the media. «I suggested that this audio be obtained and made available to the Prosecutor’s Office. But since it was already in the Prosecutor’s Office, what we have done is collaborate, “explained Luis Salaya, about the alleged leaks in the opposition in which eight pending positions were called for coverage in the Local Police staff through the free shift.

Salaya admits, as the Councilor for Human Resources also advanced, that he has not listened to the audio in which recommendations were supposedly given on the topics of the exam. “We were aware of this situation and it came to us through CSIF,” highlights the councilor. It was that union that went with the document to the Prosecutor’s Office in order to clarify what happened and assess whether there was a possible illegality. In any case, as Salaya recalls, it was the examining court that, in view of the situation, preferred to continue with the selection process.

«It was decided to wait for the investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office and fully collaborate with it in what we can contribute. And I already say that it will be little because we are not the ones with the most information, not having been able to even get that audio, ”says the mayor. In a more personal assessment, the councilor pointed out that it will be necessary to see if what has happened supposes a violation of the Law.

Salaya asked that the audio be transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office and Mateos (PP) believes that “the credibility of the City Council is at stake”

“It is not even clear that this audio raises something that is illegal. Recommendations on what may or may not enter an exam depending on who the president of the court may be. If years ago a colleague asked me why he can enter an exam, I could tell him that the professor likes European International Law, but since that professor told me that… There we would have a problem. That will have to be investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office and if it decides to go ahead, the judge will decide it », he concludes.

CSIF received an envelope with no return address that contained a flash drive containing the files with the alleged leaks

For Salaya, the case remains at the expense of the steps taken by the Prosecutor’s Office once CSIF sends him the document. This type of situation does not contribute to offering the best image of the personnel selection processes, not only in the case of the City Council but of the entire Public Administration, according to the alderman. The feeling remains that the processes are not clean, although these alleged illegalities are not later demonstrated, he analyzes. “We trust that it will come to nothing but the image is already damaged,” he assumes. “It is a painful and complex issue,” Salaya abounds, believing that the general rule is that “the processes are clean.”

Mateos (PP) calls for transparency

The PP spokesman, Rafael Mateos, asks for “maximum transparency and collaboration in the alleged leak.” Mateos maintains that it is “a fundamental question because the credibility of the City Council as an institution is at stake. We consider very serious the fact that doubts are cast on access to the public function.

From CSIF it is added that as soon as they became aware of the anonymous audio they brought it to the attention of the Prosecutor’s Office. What came to the union, its managers point out, was an envelope with no return address that contained a flash drive, and in it the audio in several independent files. “It was placed in the hands of the legal cabinet and immediately moved to the Prosecutor’s Office,” they explain.
