The Socialists reject the comparison with Bildu and ERC, they do not fear the ‘Feijóo effect’ that the polls reflect and rule out that he can debate with Sánchez in Congress if he becomes a senator

The PSOE spokesman in the Congress of Deputies, Héctor Gómez, thinks that the national leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo is trying to “disguise the danger” of his policy of pacts with Vox and has also rejected that this alliance can be equate the PSOE agreements with formations such as EH Bildu and ERC, as the new ‘popular’ president criticized him.

In statements to Europa Press, Gómez has accused Feijóo of “diverting attention” from the steps that the PP is taking in governance agreements with the formation of Santiago Abascal, after the investiture of Alfonso Fernández Mañueco took place this week ( PP) as president of Castilla y León, after closing a government with Vox.

In his opinion, his first steps at the head of the PP are not “hopeful” because he has closed a governance agreement with Vox in this community and then has promoted a “domestic violence” law together with a formation that has not signed the pact of State against gender violence.

Confront with the Government, as Casado

In this sense, he has been convinced that the PSOE must confront Vox to explain what a party that “defends to end the State of autonomies” wants to do, speaks of “intrafamily” violence instead of gender violence and “prefers a government of a dictatorship» to the current one born in democracy, as indicated.

“Let us be aware of the danger that certain approaches and postulates that Vox defends today represent for the entire citizenry,” he warned, before stressing that even the leader of the European People’s Party, Donald Tusk, showed his rejection of the pact in Castilla y Lion.

Gómez has also accused Feijóo of trying to hide his “frontism” and his purpose of “confronting the maximum” with the Government and with the PSOE, since he thinks that he is following the same line that his predecessor, Pablo Casado, began, according to what he has affirmed. .

An unbecoming contradiction of a leader in Galicia

In addition, he considers “a contradiction” that Feijóo reproached the Government for the pacts with formations such as Bildu and ERC in response to criticism of the coalition in Castilla y León.

The still president of the Xunta de Galicia called it a “joke” that the PSOE asks him not to agree with Vox in Castilla y León when he governs with Podemos in Spain and has Bildu and ERC as partners. What’s more, he stressed that in Navarra the socialists are governing with the nationalist left.

Along these same lines, the socialist spokesman has criticized the PP for stating that the solution passed through “democracy” and “the ballot box” during the existence of the terrorist group ETA and “once that happens” they criticize that the conflicts in certain territories are channeled through politics. “It is an inappropriate contradiction for a leader in Galicia, Núñez Feijóo, who knows perfectly well what has happened in our country in recent history”, he pointed out.

Likewise, he has defended that the Government and the PSOE are working “intensely” to end these territorial tensions and this has been demonstrated with the “sensitivity” that they have shown in Catalonia, as he has pointed out, betting on dialogue in the face of the “lack policy» of the PP.

On the other hand, he has denied that in the PSOE there is fear of a ‘Feijóo effect’ that some polls are already reflecting, which give an absolute majority to the sum of PP and Vox in the face of the next general elections after the change in the dome of the P.P.

He hopes that the government’s effort will be valued in the elections

In this regard, he hopes that citizens value the “effort” of the Government and “the leadership” of Spain to face the crises derived from the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Thus, he has mentioned measures such as ERTEs to protect employment and expansionary policies as opposed to layoffs and cuts that were applied in the 2008 financial crisis, managed by the PP.

Héctor Gómez has also ruled out that Feijóo could intervene in the Congress of Deputies to debate with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, if he were appointed senator. “It is not a matter of will, but what the regulations establish,” he warned.

Thus, he has assured that he does not know if the leader of the PP has the will to become a senator but has warned that if that were his next move, his area of management would be the Senate, and therefore he has asked the ‘popular’ to be consistent with the steps they take.

In this way, he recalled that Feijóo is not a deputy and therefore cannot participate in the debates in Congress or in the control sessions of the Government in the Lower House because “he has not been elected to do so,” he has settled.

Close to feel the street

When asked if he perceives social unrest due to some of the effects of the conflict in Ukraine, such as the price of fuel and energy, and if he thinks that there may be more demonstrations if the situation continues, the socialist deputy accused the right and the extreme right to try to capitalize on certain mobilizations, in reference to the carriers’ strike, to “generate a scenario of discontent.”

However, he has maintained that the Government has “his feet on the ground”, is very close to the feelings of the citizenry as a whole and has made courageous decisions “looking at the problems head-on and responding”, he defended.
