The Vuelta Ciclista a Extremadura 2022 will be held from June 15 to 19 with five stages subject to a 594-kilometre itinerary, in which a total of 20 Elite-Under 23 category teams from Spain and Portugal will participate. The race will pass through 52 locations in the region. The Spanish squads come from Murcia, Galicia, Navarra, the Basque Country, the Valencian Community, Andalusia, Castilla y León, Cantabria, the Canary Islands and Extremadura.

The race will have a route drawn from the south to the north of the region that will start in Zafra and end in Moraleja, with stages that will take place between nine towns in Extremadura, five in the province of Badajoz and four in the province of Cáceres. In the new edition of the Extremadura round, the first stage will be a team night time trial and will run through an urban circuit in the town of Zafra.

The second stage, in turn, will start in Llerena, will pass through the province of Badajoz and will end in the town of Quintana de la Serena, with a distance of 140 kilometres. The third stage, with 151 kilometres, will start from the town of Castuera and will go through different points in the Siberian region of Extremadura, ending at the Castle of Herrera del Duque.

The fourth stage will begin in Miajadas, will run through the province of Cáceres with a route of 145 kilometers, ending in the town of Garrovillas de Alconétar. The fifth and last stage will start in Ahigal, and will pass through the Sierra de Gata to finish in the town of Moraleja after 150 kilometers of travel.

All the details were announced this Thursday at a ceremony that took place at the San Francisco cultural complex in the capital of Cáceres with the presence of the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Nuria Flores; the representatives of Culture and Sports of the Badajoz and Cáceres councils, Francisco Martos and Fernando Grande, respectively, and the president of the Extremaduran Cycling Federation, Julián Pozuelo. The general director of Sports, Dan De Sande, and the mayors of the nine finish or start locations of the stages were also in attendance.

Nuria Flores has highlighted the collaboration between the Junta de Extremadura, the provincial councils of Badajoz and Cáceres, together with the Extremadura Cycling Federation, in the organization of the Vuelta Ciclista a Extremadura, which is being held again for the second year after 10 years stopped , with a route that will cross different points of the region.

“In Extremadura we are rich; we are rich in natural resources, we are rich in heritage resources, we are rich in cultural resources, we are rich in tourist resources and, of course, we are rich in sports resources”, asserted the minister, who highlighted that ” the Vuelta a Extremadura flavor will permeate the entire region”.

In turn, the president of the Extremaduran Cycling Federation, Julián Pozuelo, has indicated that this “is one of the most important events on the sports calendar at a regional, national and international level”, and has welcomed the fact that the initiative has been recovered .

The deputy for Culture and Sports of the Cáceres Provincial Council, Fernando Grande, has assured that the Vuelta a Extremadura “is a showcase for the region”, and has also insisted that “we are rich in sports resources” and that “athletes, Cycling fans and our future cycling champions will be delighted to see the future leaders of the international cycling squad on our land”.

His counterpart in the Diputación de Badajoz, Francisco Martos, has pointed out that “Extremadura is at the point of pedaling without missing a beat”, and has assured that it is a cyclical event that “leaves a mark and is never forgotten”.

The Vuelta Ciclista a Extremadura is promoted by the Extremadura Cycling Federation, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Junta de Extremadura and the Provincial Councils of Badajoz and Cáceres.
