The last of the sections to be run in the work of doubling the highway between Elche and Santa Pola, the one closest to the city of Elche will have an additional environmental impact. This is what the mayor, Carlos González, requested this Tuesday from the Minister of Public Works, Arcadi Spain, on your visit. The proposal of the first mayor is that the work of the last section of this long-awaited infrastructure also includes the necessary works to put an end to the floods that occur in the San Antón ravine and the Atzavares district every time there are episodes of heavy rain.
Spain yesterday made its first institutional visit to Elche as councilor and, after passing through the City Council, approached with González himself and the mayor of Santa Pola, Loreto serrano, to check on the spot the current unfolding works on the second section of the road, the one that separates the Vereda de Sendres de Valverde, which has an execution period of twelve months and an investment from the Generalitat of 2.5 million euros.
Safety is one of the key factors in the intervention that is being carried out in an infrastructure that collects, at the end of the day, the passage of 17,000 vehicles
The total intervention will exceed 11 million. As of today, two kilometers have been run and there are about ten to go. During his visit, the minister made the commitment that all sections go out to tender before the end of the current mandate. The last one is the one that gave the most game yesterday, especially after the mayor’s words: «It is important that in this mandate the complete tender is executed and the area closest to Elche has to collect the technical solution for the problem that exists in the ravine of San Antón and Atzavares with floods. It is a matter of concern and it is essential that the road resolves the relationship with its surroundings.
The glove thrown by González was picked up by Spain, who also referred to the technical solutions that the work must offer for the problem that affects San Antón and Atzavares. «In the last section we have a flood problem in the ravine. A more difficult environmental procedure will be necessary due to the difficulties it poses. The important thing is that, with the investment of 11 million, we are going to build an infrastructure that has a more sustainable perspective and responds to the needs of the people of Elche, “he said.
The regional head of Public Works also explained which are the priority axes of the new road between Elche and Santa Pola, some points that are based on the “sustainable look” that he commented. These axes go through the increase in the capacity of the infrastructure, by bending the road, the cycle-pedestrian lane, road safety to reduce accidents and the improvement of the accessibility of public transport.
«This road is essential in the intense social, cultural and economic relationship that Elche and Santa Pola maintain, with many displacements at the end of the day that increase during the summer months “, concluded the mayor of Elche.
