From today Palamós hosts the second test of the Cutty Sark FKSS 2021 circuit of the Formula Kite specialty. Last weekend the first regatta was held in Mallorca with the victory of the Russian Denis Taradin and the Polish Julia Damasiewicz. This weekend there will be 54 sailors registered in the Open category and almost a dozen in the F-One FKSS Amateur. Today the training regattas have been held and tomorrow and the day after the valid rounds will be contested to decide the champions of what is now the European reference circuit in the Olympic specialty of Kitefoil.

In Palamós, with the collaboration of the Club Náutic Costa Brava & Vela Palamós, more than fifty sailors of ten different nationalities will meet at the Cutty Sark FKSS 2021 Palamós with a wide representation of the national teams of Israel, Poland and Russia. There will also be a large participation of French sailors. In both the male and female categories, the cast of sailors is world-class. In women, five of the 10 best sailors in the world are participating in the Palamós competition. The Polish Julia Damasiewicz, who has four consecutive victories in the FKSS, is the first of those present in the IKA world ranking in third place, but she will have a lot of battle with rivals such as the French Alexia Fancelli, fourth in the world, or his compatriot Poema Newman and the Poles Nina Arcisz and Magdalena Woyciechowska, the three among the ten best in the world. Also competing in Palamós is the Spanish Gisela Pulido who is fifteenth in the world ranking of the specialty.

From Ramecout, favorite

Also in men there will be a competition with big names. The big favorite to the final triumph is the Frenchman Theo de Ramecourt who is currently number three in the world. The Frenchman already knows what it is to win in the Cutty Sark FKSS because in 2019 he won in Castellón and in 2020 he did it in the Alarcón swamp test. De Ramecourt wants to break the inertia of the Russian Denis Taradin who won last week at CN Arenal and is the current defender of the Cutty Sark FKSS title.

But in Palamós there will also be the Polish Maks Zakowski, number 10 in the world, and the best Spanish in this specialty, the Valencian Alejandro Climent, who is currently twelfth in the world ranking. Regarding the rest of the Spanish registered, the Valencians Carlos Puig, Kiko Peiró and Sebastián Ducos will be present.

Zakowski and Arcisz, the best today

The Polish Zakowski was the best today in the practice day after taking two second places and a first in the three races contested. The Pole won the Caravanas El Osito prize, which is given to the best on the eve of the competition. Second was De Ramecourt and the other big favorite for the victory in Palamós, Denis Taradin, had to retire after having an incident in the water with another sailor and suffering a blow to the ankle. Fourth was the Valencian Alejandro Climent. The one who will not be in the game today is the best Israeli in the specialty Dor Zarka who has not come in time to recover from the deep cut that was made in the hand in Mallorca. Zarka went out to train today, but saw that his hand was not in condition for a competition at the highest level such as the Cutty Sark FKSS.

In women, the winner of the free Ozone registration was the Polish Nina Arcisz, although with very little income over the French Fancelli and Newman. The big favorite, Julia Damasiewicz, did not start in the last heat of the day, although in the first two she was the best classified woman. The Spanish Gisela Pulido only completed the first round of the training day.

Theo de Ramecourt explained: “It is very important for me to complement training with competitions and the Cutty Sark FKSS allows me to do both for the French European Championship in just over a month. Here there is a great level with great sailors who are going to push me to the limit and for me that is very important in order to catch the rhythm of the season. This is a competition that I really like. I have the official material from last season and I hope I do very well this week in Palamós ”.

F-One FKSS Amateur

Regarding the F-One FKSS Amateur Category in the Palamós test, there are almost a dozen sailors registered in a competition that has as an incentive for athletes who do not have to bring their boards and foils to the competitions since the F-One brand lends them to you and they are mandatory in competition. The Amateur will also compete on Saturday and Sunday, although with fewer rounds than the Open. Today they did two training rounds and the best was Vicente González followed by Paco Peiró.
