Low-income recipients who have not yet claimed the stimulus check have less than 24 hours to apply to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) using the online tool “Non-filers”.

The IRS reminded individuals eligible to receive the CARES payment on Thursday that they must complete the procedure. no later than this Saturday, November 21 at 3 pm ET. These Americans would also be entitled to the additional credit of $ 500 for dependents under 17 years of age up to a maximum of three, as established by statute approved in the United States Congress last March.

The extended November 21 deadline also allows more time for federal benefit recipients who have already received a payment but have not signed up to receive payments of $ 500 for qualifying children.

This group includes people who receive Social Security retirement funds, survivor or disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Railroad Retirement benefits, and Veterans Affairs Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefits.

Any other low-income individual who is not required to file taxes in 2018 or 2019 can apply for an economic impact payment.

The Non-Filers tool is designed for people with incomes typically below $ 24,400 for married couples, and $ 12,200 for singles who cannot be claimed as dependents by someone else. This includes couples and individuals who are homeless, unemployed, and college students who are not claimed as dependents by their parents.

Users who claim the aid before the deadline period, can request that the payment be deposited to their bank account to speed up the process of sending and receiving the money.

Two weeks after completing the payment request, individuals can track the status of their payment using the “Get My Payment” tool, also available only on IRS.gov.

The “Non-filers” service, available from April, was empowered by the IRS to try to reach out to those who are not required to submit their tax information since their adjusted gross income (AGI) is very low.

Through the application, the applicant enters his personal information and that of the dependents. As part of the process, the person must create an account on the website with their email address and phone number; in addition to a user identification (ID) and password (Password).

Who should not use the Non-Filers tool?

Those who are required to file a 2018 or 2019 tax return should not use the tool. This group is responsible for filing the tax return. In the event that they used “Non-filers” even though they were not supposed to, they will still need to file a tax return electronically to receive the check. Those who can be claimed as dependents on someone else’s tax return should also not use “Non-Filers”.

The extension of the deadline is one of the additional initiatives of the IRS to try to locate at least 9 million citizens who are creditors of the money but have not received it because the agency does not have the data to process the payment.

In September, the office sent the same number of letters to recipients who may be eligible to receive the check.

More than half a million letters were sent in New York state alone, urging people to access the IRS website to claim payment.

Additionally, on November 10, the entity launched the “National Registration Day for Economic Impact Payments” in a multisectoral effort to locate potential beneficiaries.

The campaign included the collaboration of partners of the entity as well as non-profit organizations that work directly with low-income and marginalized communities.

At this time, the IRS has not detailed how many more people signed up to the system after these additional efforts.

The latest data available at the time indicates that some 8 million Americans have used “Non-filers” since its premiere in spring.
