There is no safe place in New York: video captured “madness” by shooting inside a hospital in the Bronx; hispanic arrested



A man pulled out a gun and shot a patient last night in the emergency room at Jacobi Hospital, one of the largest in the Bronx, (NYC), causing the closure of the emergency area.

The wild incident was caught on video released by New York Post. Surveillance footage shows the gunman dressed in black drawing his gun and pointing it at his male victim.

The victim, who was there to be treated for a previous injury, can be seen running through the staging area seeking cover as he is shot.

The suspect then ran off, but later he was arrested and identified as Keber Martínez, 25 years old. He was charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a firearm, reported NY1 News.

Police sources said the gunman was at the hospital yesterday around 12:30 pm looking for a friend who was arrested and possibly receiving treatment, when tHe had an argument with the victim, whom he knew.

The young suspect shot the 35-year-old victim four times, striking him in the forearm. the same man too survived a shooting last year, according to sources.

“This was a reprehensible act, made worse by the fact that it happened in a place where New Yorkers go for safety and to heal,” said the new alcalde Eric Adams en Twitter, announcing that he would visit the hospital.

Derek Jackson of the Teamsters Local 237 union, which represents hospital police in New York City, said the Jacobi has been plagued by violence in recent months.

“It’s The Bronx, that’s all I can say. It’s crazy”, said Kevin Jacobs, parking manager for the hospital. “It’s the Bronx, you really can’t do anything. This is what happens in the Bronx,” he insisted, calling the shooting “crazy… This is where people get help.”

After the rise of armed violence in 2020 and 2021, the year 2022 has started with the same trend, representing a great challenge for the new Adams, former NYPD officer. Five police officers have been shot this month in NYC, two of them dead.

The escalating shootings in New York City have already left 21 people dead so far in 2022. The mayor on Monday Adams laid out an aggressive plan to fight guns and crime, which includes greater police presence and action, and prevention actions such as increased economic opportunities, improved education and greater access to mental health support initiatives.
