They destroy the genitals of a failure that represents a naked woman

The flaw mutilated.

The fallera artist, Anna Ruiz, attributes the act of vandalism to a minority that does not respect the female body

The Lepanto-Guillem de Castro commission woke up on the morning of March 17 with its big fault shattered. Last night in an act of vandalism they destroyed the genitals of the ninot, which represented a naked woman sitting with her legs spread called ‘Vita Activa’. The fallera artist, Anna Ruiz, is devastated. “What she demonstrates in this act is that female nudity is still a taboo subject.” She, in her opinion, “is totally an act of gender-based violence.” Apparently, the fault security guard saw a group of people fleeing the area who could be the alleged perpetrators of the damage,

Ruiz considers that the destruction was not accidental. “They could have broken a part of the foot but they had to get between the legs of the figure”, with which he classifies the act as intentional. Even so, he considers that the authors reflect a minority that does not respect the female body.

“For me it was important that she be naked because it implies the connection with oneself, it has no other reading,” says the fallera artist, who still does not believe the situation. As she expressed in the text that she wrote on the falla poster, the idea of her came to her after she was a mother. In addition, for the Castielfabib failure, the artist also made the figure of the naked body of a man, a piece entitled “Jo visc”, which she assures that she did not scandalize popular opinion so much.

«I saw that people had welcomed the ninot of the Lepanto fault very well. Many got the message although some still laughed and made jokes”, highlights Anna Ruiz. Still, she did not expect such a brutal attack against the figure of him. The Lepanto-Guillem de Castro fault is already trying to repair the ninot to hide the damage.

What happened has caused outrage on social networks and has been condemned, among others, by the mayor of Valencia Joan Ribó.

Las Fallas is satire, social criticism in the form of a colorful monument that is symbolically burned on March 19 in Cremà. Each one has its own motto that gives meaning to the scene it represents and on which all the ninots and details of the plantà are configured. This year’s winner was ‘2030’ by Pere Baenas, which reflects the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through its natural scenes for Convento Jerusalem, although there are two other flaws that are also giving a lot to talk about.

These are the faults of Lepanto-Guillem de Castro and Castielfabib, both signed by the plastic artist Anna Ruiz Sospedra. The monuments draw special attention due to the daring of their proposal: two naked bodies of a man (piece entitled ‘Jo visc’, for Castielfabib) and a woman (‘Vita Activa’, for Lepanto-Guillem de Castro). The latter has earned him a fourth Caliu award this year.

The artist herself has shared via Instagram some photographs in which her works are appreciated, which she accompanies with an explanatory text of its meaning in each case.

“Vita Activa, was born from the need to ask myself how I was, what it was that had transformed me, where I was no longer me, or at least the one I knew until now,” details the artist about the woman’s monument.
