huawei today announced the launch of its smartphone folding badge model matte xs 2, a terminal that maintains the brand’s own folding design with outward opening (book format). It integrates a new double rotation Falcon Wing Hinge, so the device folds completely. It is equipped with a folding screen, 7.8″ True Chroma, and with a 50MP True-Chroma camera system compatible with Huawei XD optics. With dynamic folding visual effect and enhanced Smart Multi Window function, the brand offers a very novel user experience.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer BG, highlighted that “Mate Xs 2 has evolved in design, has improved smart functionalities and offers a better interaction experience thanks to its large screen. Our new flagship device is here to lead the foldable phone segment.”
New Materials
The device weighs 255g, a figure that has only been reached in non-foldable phones to date. This has been possible thanks to the use of new materials such as ultralight glass fibers used in the back plate of the phone, as well as aerospace-grade titanium alloys and high-strength steel, used in the structure of the terminal. These materials not only reduce the weight of the phone, but also provide greater strength.
The Falcon Wing Hinge, with double rotation, becomes completely flat and smooth, offering a more immersive experience. It is made of ultra-lightweight, high-strength steel that makes the device lighter and stronger.
The screen has been manufactured taking as a reference the anti-collision systems used in cars, improving cushioning and shock absorption. This provides greater flexibility and improves the phone’s shock resistance.
Design
It has a screen with a resolution of 2480 x 2200 and a ratio of 8:7.1. Supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, as well as up to 240Hz touch sampling rate; while the anti-reflective Nano Optical Layer helps reduce the light reflectivity of the panel, offering a better reading experience in sunlight. With a screen ratio of 19:9 when unfolded.
It has been made of 3D fiberglass that achieves a softer touch and reduces fingerprint stains. The phone is available in two colors: black, accompanied with a crosshatch-like leather texture; and white, with a natural leather texture.
Applied technologies
It comes with a 4600mAh battery and supports 66W SuperCharge distributed charging. It has a graphene liquid cooling system that has improved heat dissipation. It is equipped with a wide-area stereo sound system that, thanks to the new AI Sound Engine, offers immersive audio. It is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor that provides optimal folding smartphones.

The Mate Xs 2’s True-Chroma camera system includes a 50 MP camera to capture true-to-life colors. The improvements developed in Huawei XD Optics allow to recover information to restore the details of the photographs, improving the clarity of the final image. The model is prepared to reproduce colors, allowing details to be accurately captured. This is made possible by the True-Chroma XD Fusion Pro imaging engine, 10-channel multispectral sensor, and P3 full gamut color calibration with over 2,000 colors; as well as the debugging and optimization capabilities of software and hardware.
The exclusive intelligent Mirror Shooting function allows you to preview the images to be photographed in real time through the camera’s digital viewfinder on both screens simultaneously. It is also equipped with the new generation of AI Remove, which allows you to edit photos and remove specific objects. In addition, thanks to the telephoto and wide-angle cameras, wide and distant elements can be captured in a single image.
