This is the program of the Villancicos Show of the Diputación de Badajoz

The event reaches its fortieth edition with choral performances in six municipalities

«Every year, when the Christmas dates approach, the choirs of our province of Badajoz finalize the details of their preparation to participate in the Provincial Christmas Carol Show that the Delegation of Culture and Sports of the Badajoz Provincial Council organizes and promotes, with great joy and pride, and that this year celebrates its XL edition ». With these words, the deputy delegate for the area, Francisco Martos, has introduced what will be the forty Christmas musical event that, now a tradition, will be held on December 10, 11, 16, 17, 18 and 23. .

“And it does so by sharing this work with the Extremadura Choir Federation, an entity whose capacity to energize the choirs is essential if we want to talk about a successful show, as it undoubtedly is year after year”, the deputy indicated, because ” it is not otherwise that forty editions are reached in a cultural activity».

For Francisco Martos, Christmas carols are songs that are internalized in the depths of the popular heritage, “forming part of our culture and the soul of the people.”

The deputy has not hesitated to recognize the work of the choirs, their effort, hours of rehearsal and enthusiasm that they put into this event, a permanently maintained enthusiasm, “as well as the important role they play in the task of preserving, studying and spread the Christmas carols that they present to us”, he has defended.

The six towns selected to host this edition are Torre de Miguel Sesmero, Lobón, Villar de Rena, Entrerríos, Guadiana and Campillo de Llerena. Martos has thanked his town councils for their work and collaboration, ceding their parishes, houses of culture and other emblematic facilities in each town.

This is how it is for the Badajoz Provincial Council », he expresses.

In this sense, the president of the Federation, José Valadés, maintains that Christmas carols “create longing, passion and illusions in us, transmitting friendship and peace”.

He has recognized the problem that arose with the selection of the choirs, since they all wanted to integrate this exhibition that programs works by composers and lyrics from Extremadura.

Finally, Valadés has referred to the library of scores that are added every year and that they make available to other federations at the national level.
