The solution for North junction of the M-30The epicenter of rush hour traffic jams in the capital, construction will begin in a matter of ten days. However, these first works will not affect mobility until October next year, when the intervention to undo the braiding begins. The goal is for the reform to be completed in the last quarter of 2022. Thanks to it, this point they go through 270,000 vehicles per day it will succeed in reducing congestion levels below 70 percent. In total, drivers will save 3,667 hours a day.
This intervention, “long awaited” by the residents of the area, is, in the words of the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, “One of those works that will mark the near future of Madrid”, since it will have “very beneficial effects for the city as a whole.” Given “the extraordinary technical complexity,” the councilor asked citizens for “understanding” “for the inconvenience that the work may cause,” especially when the first traffic cuts and diversions begin.
From the 33rd floor of Space Tower, 132 meters above the Nudo Norte, the first popular mayor recalled that, as ABC advanced, the actions in this initial phase will focus on the connection of the diversions of services -gas, water, electricity and telephone lines- that interfere with the solutions designed. To carry out these interventions, new connections between streets will have to be created and the lanes will be temporarily reduced in some accesses.
In this first stage, the connection between the Calle de las Islas Molucas with that of the Isla de Java will be undertaken, to improve the accessibility of the surroundings of Calle de Antonio Cabezón, where the first service diversions will be made. After Christmas, the residents of the environment and the vehicles that circulate on this road will find some traffic problems to eliminate the crossings that connect the M-30, la M-607, la M-11, la A-1 and the Paseo de la Castellana.
Specifically, they will be reduced from two lanes to one lane from the exit of Paseo de la Castellana to the M-30, necessary to execute a new access for the work. It will be located in the area between the Adif roads, the trunk of the M-30 and the M-11. This reduction in the lanes should be maintained during the first 18 months of the works.
During these first months, FCC, the successful bidder of the works, will try to ensure that the accesses and transfers of the trucks that work in the intervention are made from the perimeter roads and outside the rush hour to hinder the drivers and residents of the neighborhood as much as possible. Until then, the Environment and Mobility Area will carry out different models to find the alternatives to traffic that cause the least inconvenience to the people of Madrid, since during the second phase the bulk of the works will be undertaken in the different structures, which are located within of the footprint of the current main roads.
“This will be the time of the works with the greatest incidence in the movement of vehicles, since the projected detours will reduce the capacity of the node”, they indicate from the Area that directs Borja Carabante (PP). Already in the last stage, work will be done on the surface with milling, paving, lighting and drainage of the roads. An intervention that resembles the “asphalt operation” and will be carried out at night.
