The Civil Guard of Malaga, through Seprona, has proceeded this Tuesday to the arrest of three men for alleged gross negligence in relation to the fire in Sierra Bermeja since last Wednesday. The three arrested are available to the judge when he calls them, who must decide on them. The three workers on the farm where the fire started were arrested, brought before the investigators, where they took their statements. Later they were sent home to wait to be summoned by the judge when it deems it based on the procedures that will be sent to it.

Some work with heavy machinery They were the ones that caused the last fire in the municipality of Pujerra. The sub-delegate of the Government confirmed the three arrests, of which would be workers from the La Resinera farm, who would be employed in the area with said heavy machinery.

The Malaga Environmental Prosecutor also warned this Tuesday that these tasks would have been carried out “in inappropriate circumstances” for existing conditions. It should be remembered that, since June 1, Andalusia has been in a period of high fire risk and extreme precautions must be taken in the field.

The fire originated around 3:00 p.m. last Wednesday in a property of the Libyan Foreign Bank, which extends over 7,200 hectares between Pujerra, Júzcar and Benahavís in the Sierra Bermeja. In this last municipality of the Costa del Sol is where the fire had the most affect with the eviction of neighbors. In the first hours of extinguishing the fire, the Emergency device had to ddecree the eviction of more than 2,000 residents of Benahavísas well as surrounding urbanizations and the Velerín Alto de Estepona.

Also, three Infoca forest firefighters were injured in the first approaches to the virulent fire. Two were discharged the next day. The third, who was in more serious condition, has also been discharged from the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville to recover at home from the second-degree burns he suffered.

With that on the horizon and while the Infoca troops continue to fight the flames in Sierra Bermeja, this past Monday, once the weather conditions allowed it, the environmental agents of the Forest Fire Investigation Brigade were able to access the area of the first focus of the fire to confirm this hypothesis. The investigators concluded, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, that the origin was in an imprudence.

From the beginning it was suspected that, on this occasion, it was not the work of an arsonist. Sources close to the investigations consulted by ABC explain that the indications that go with this type of authorship of the fires were not given. Although they could be caused by the climatic conditions of high temperature, steep terrain and strong winds, it did not fit the hour. Despite this, more than 3,500 hectares have been calcined. The fire is stabilized, but not controlled.

It is not the work of an arsonist

The fire started at 3:00 p.m., when the troops of the Infoca could act, above all it was one now that allowed, with the current hours of sunlight, a prolonged attack by aerial means. Nor did the date suspect an arsonist. Right now the vegetation still has good humidity conditions. Those responsible for extinction acknowledged to ABC that the column of white smoke was due to water particles in the vegetation and that, in months where there is dryness, it would be black.

The Prosecutor’s Office explains that the fire does not save, neither by its nature nor by its authorship, no relationship with the one produced last year in the same place. On that occasion, it was the work of an arsonist, who burned down 10,000 hectares and cost the life of a forest firefighter during the extinction work.

The statement signed by the prosecutor himself explains that this investigation is still under summary secrecy, subject to judicial control, and that the investigation is still active. The Environment Prosecutor’s Office explains that it was already warned a year ago that it was an extremely complex investigation, as it was an intentional fire in which the author took all kinds of precautions to avoid being discovered.
