The transport platform in Extremadura is concentrated this Friday in the Government Delegation and they demand a solution

Supermarket shelves are full and the ghost of shortages is moving away. But part of the truck drivers continue with their claims, which this Friday they have brought to the doors of the Government Delegation in Extremadura.

The national freight transport platform insists that the Government has not adopted measures that allow them to recover profitability in their activity and that those adopted are insufficient. “This week, three truckers have sold their companies because it is impossible to endure,” explain those responsible for this group in Extremadura. José Maqueda and Germán Martínez insist that the reduction in the price of fuel by 20 cents is not enough.

Maqueda assures that supply problems persist “because the factories keep calling us.” «Many factories offer us double, but punctually and to get by. Our problem is not punctual, we have to continue eating after bringing the merchandise to them.

The spokesperson for the platform, which according to its data groups between 1,800 and 2,000 carriers in the region, acknowledges that there are truckers who have returned to work. “The freedom to work exists,” he stresses. Although the activity is economically unviable with the current situation.

With whistles and cowbells, some thirty truck drivers with yellow vests have called the Government delegate, Yolanda García Seco, asking her to correct her words. “She has told us that we are far-right and activists, and that is not the case,” said José Maqueda.

“We are here so that the government delegate can see that we continue. I bring people here so that they can see that we are normal people. I am not a far-rightist, nor an activist. I just want to claim a salary that allows me to support my family, “said Germán Martínez.

“Yolanda, go out on the balcony, we want your resignation”, the concentrated truck drivers have chanted.

Just a few days ago, the PSOE came out in defense of the Government delegate. In the party’s view, she has become the target of “intolerable insults and attacks.”

The platform will continue this weekend carrying out informative pickets in the region and organizing slow marches in different municipalities. Tomorrow, Saturday, another meeting will take place in Madrid, between representatives of the Government and the national platform, from which they hope to obtain commitments that satisfy their claims.

“We are here for the same cause as 20 days ago. We claim our rights in the transport sector, we cannot work at a loss. The minister promised us a law, but it takes time to process. The truck drivers want to recover their activity, but for the moment they maintain the strike indefinitely.
