Thunderstorms continuing for Springfield, surrounding area

While a severe thunderstorm warning for northeast Sangamon County is being allowed to expire, another warning is being issued for parts of Macoupin and Montgomery counties southwest of Springfield.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln issued the warning at 3:13 p.m., saying that radar had detected a severe storm over Girard, moving east at 25 mph. The storm was reported to bring quarter-size hail and winds up to 60 mph, along with heavy rains.

Earlier, the NWS issued a warning for northeast Sangamon County at 2:49 p.m., along with southeastern Logan and northwestern Macon counties until 3:15 p.m. The warning was allowed to expire as the storm had weakened.

However, rain and storms are likely to continue into the evening hours, continuing the saturation of the area that began with a series of storms Tuesday morning.
