The term “fashion” describes the current fashions in clothing and not only by their appearance, but also by how you wear them. Fashion is constantly changing and the concept has changed at the dawn of the time (Bray 2009).
There are two types of styles:
Haute couture and ready-to-wear (McCallum). Haute couture is created by hand, with exquisite attention to detail in fabrics, while the ready-to-wear market sells mass-produced designs made by factories (McMullen 2011,). Both industries employ completely different techniques that delve into the old-fashioned. For example, haute couture uses historical clothing to design new juice wrld merch 999 styles, but it still retains certain elements that are inherited from the original style. The term “ready-to-wear” refers to the use of technology to develop new styles that are faster and produce large quantities of clothing at a lower price (McMullen 2011).
The beginning of fashion began with the modernization process that began in Europe in the seventeenth century after many years of war between religions. At the time, it was considered unsociable to wear expensive clothing as it was considered unnecessary and extravagant as people believed it to be identical to God’s vision. People also viewed those who wore extravagant clothing or held a higher position than themselves as a disappointment, as they displayed arrogance towards other Christians in distress (Bray 2009, 85). But soon after, the social classes began to fall in a new way, instead of being divided by the wealth of their respective homes. This led to the rise of fashion, as it was important to show one’s dignity through appearance.
The 18th century was when fashion became an increasingly important aspect of everyday life in elite society. The public began to pay more attention to fashion trends and began to follow specific rules about what kind of clothing should be worn in conjunction with certain things (McCallum). Some examples included that men needed to wear long pants and women needed skirts, not pants, during this period. This showed that even when fashion was becoming its own business, it still relied heavily on social norms and old fashions. In the period after 1780, the length of skirts increased because the roles of women were changing at that time. They were dedicated to their work more than just being a house wife and needed clothing that would allow them to move more comfortably (Bray 2009).
In the 19th century, fashion began to be an important industry after moving to Paris, where the richest women of the time lived (Bray in 2009). It was a big business due to the fact that many people were interested in fashion trends, which led to various types of businesses, including jewelry and perfume manufacturers looking to develop products specifically designed for the wealthy. But, even the designers created their own unique styles; he was still required to comply with certain guidelines. For example, women always wore hats when they went out and these hats generally matched their clothing. If they did not, they were deemed inappropriate.
The 20th century was when fashion became a method of expressing oneself because practically everyone could buy clothes, which helped the growth of this industry (Bray 2009). But, there were certain guidelines regarding what kind of clothing could be worn on different occasions. For example, women wore skirts or dresses with heels for meetings or formal business events, as it signified respect for those who also wore formal attire at the same event. The trend followed also came into play, making fashion a more prominent aspect of daily life, as everyone wanted to show their own style rather than limit themselves to society’s guidelines (McMullen 2011).
Current fashion
Modernity is all about the ever-changing social and cultural landscape of our time and the way we can adapt to the latest trends rather than abide by previously established rules (Bray 2009). Today’s fashion is much more than clothes like Tyler the creator of the shirt. It is common to see people wearing different types of accessories such as belts, scarves and accessories, and hats to complement the outfit they currently wear or because they reflect their personal style. Today, working women still wear formal business attire to work, however, they prefer to wear more informal attire on their days off and can express themselves within the limitations that society has set for them (McMullen 2011,).
The modernization of our world has caused a great deal of stress for young adults who do not need to conform to certain standards, but may not want everyone else to also understand their individual sense of fashion through clothing (McCallum (2008) ). The best way for people to discover their personal modernity is to search for different fashion magazines that give them the freedom to showcase their individual fashion while discovering different trends that are trending at the present time.
In the end, fashion has been about adapting to the fashions of society, rather than appreciating individuality. The idea of modernity allows us to challenge these preconceived notions and embrace our individual styles that can be fun and exciting (McMullen 2011,). While it may seem like we’re in a different world of fashion, we have to adhere to some basic rules like the dress code for formal wear for specific occasions, but also allow people to express themselves with individual styles, brands, and accessories.
