The demonstration is not authorized by the Government Delegation and the Platform in Defense of Our Field threatens to block roads on July 29 and August 1

The Platform in Defense of Our Field has announced this Tuesday the call for a tractor-trailer on July 12 to protest the “unsustainable” situation that, in its opinion, the agricultural sector is suffering as a result of the drought and the rise in costs of production. The demonstration will begin with several columns that will depart from different points in the region and will converge in Badajoz before the Government Delegation in Extremadura.

The protest has been called by Asaja (APAG Extremadura Asaja and Asaja Cáceres), the Extremadura Union, Aseprex, the Association of Farmers and Ranchers of Villanueva de la Serena (Agryga), the Professional Association of Farmers of Don Benito and Comarca and the Association Farmers of Valle del Jerte and neighboring counties.

The president of APAG Extremadura Asaja, Juan Metidieri, has assured that the situation “is increasingly unsustainable, not only in the primary sector, but in all sectors of society. This is not just a problem in the countryside, it is a problem for everyone, and in the face of this we are going to have to toughen up the protest measures.”

“We cannot bear the production costs,” said the president of La Unión Extremadura, Luis Cortés. In addition to the escalation in prices and the problem of drought, there is also pressure from the large chains and marketing centers, according to the president of Agryga, Herminio Íñiguez, who warns that “the field is sinking, we are discouraged ».

“We have reached a limit. We no longer know what to do, we have no choice but to make ourselves heard », declared, for her part, Natalia García, president of the Don Benito Farmers Association. “There is no way back. Once this campaign is over, the situation will become tense”, warned the president of Aseprex, Juan Francisco Rodríguez.

The Platform has denounced that the Government Delegation has denied the request for this demonstration, in what it considers “a sectarian act”. “It cannot be understood that the right to free expression is restricted in this way. Enough of this type of cacique and sectarian decisions by our delegate,” said Juan Metidieri, who has urged the Government delegate, Yolanda García Seco, to “rethink and allow that tractor.”

In any case, the Platform, which has filed an appeal, assures that the demonstration “is going to take place yes or yes” and warns that, if the tractorade is not authorized, there will be a more forceful mobilization on July 29 and August 1, coinciding with the ‘exit operation’ of August. “There will be roadblocks where the autonomous community will be completely blocked,” anticipates the Platform.
