The postponement of the Messenger-Cacereño did not change the plans of a fortnight of green followers present in La Palma

There were no points at stake, but the shirts of Mensajero and Cacereño did battle it out this past Sunday at Silvestre Carrillo. In contention, Adolfo López and Miguel Ángel Flores, two of the 15 Verdiblanco fans who traveled to La Palma this past weekend. A particular ‘performance’ without the ball that, although it did not compensate one hundred percent for the disappointment of the game being postponed, did at least serve to generate a nice image to remember. All this with the collaboration of the local player Edu Salles, who presented a shirt of the Canarian team to the followers from Cáceres who had traveled to the island.

In this particular trip to any game, the Verdiblanco fans, already hardened in a thousand battles of these characteristics, keep in their memory what, without a doubt, is the most picturesque experience as far as football trips are concerned. To some, the announcement of the postponement caught them already being in the so-called ‘Isla Bonita’. To others, just a few hours before embarking on the trip: «We found out about the postponement four hours before leaving for Barajas airport and we had already had everything organized for two months. We could not stay on land because La Palma is a worthwhile destination. We have combined tourism, gastronomy and partying. We are left with the thorn of not having seen the game, but the trip has been worth it because laughter is always good therapy and there have been many of those, “explains Jesús Corchado, one of the most recognizable faces among fans of the dean of the extreme soccer.

Others, such as Miguel Ángel Flores, did not hesitate to be ironic during the trip: «If we don’t beat them on the pitch, we’ll have to do it in karaoke, but we’ve come here to compete. Who said fear having hospitals? », He snapped at his companions on Saturday mid-afternoon. By then, between ‘barraquitos’ and some ‘gin and tonic’, those present had already managed to establish the first local alliances. Along the same lines, late at night, Adolfo López moved: «The positive side is that now we have two more hours to do mischief». This fan had previously traveled from Santander, where he works, to Cáceres to make the trip with his colleagues.

Although throughout the weekend the Cacereño fans were scattered in small groups, most of them shared a few hours on Saturday afternoon in one of the central squares of Santa Cruz de la Palma, from where they also watched parades through the Calle San Francisco to the different public representatives who participated in the Conference of Presidents. Among them, that of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara. At the end of the official act, the Valencian president, Ximo Puig, shared impressions with historical fans of the Salamanca road team, as is the case of Narciso Blanco and his son Eric. “The same thing happened to me that happened to you two weeks ago,” Puig told them, referring to the postponement in February of the aforementioned summit, when the regional leaders had to return to their autonomous communities after arriving on the island due to the invasion of Russia to Ukraine.

Already on Sunday and until Monday night, when the last Cacereño fans left the Canary archipelago, the fans took the opportunity to visit different parts of the island. There was no shortage of visits to the vicinity of the Cumbre Vieja volcano or to the astrophysical observatory of Roque de los Muchachos, where adverse weather conditions, with temperatures below zero and strong gusts of wind with sleet, deprived hikers of privileged views.

The good humor did not stop and Adolfo López left the last sarcastic pill on Twitter just before boarding the plane back to Madrid: “We are leaving, but you know that Julio Cobos’ team has not played anything,” he published. At least, already in the early hours of Tuesday, none of them returned to Cáceres with a defeat.
