Trujillo yesterday became a reference in the world of art and painting with two projects of great relevance. One of them has been the inauguration of the Jaime de Jaraíz museum, located in the church of Santiago. The other has been the coming-out of the itinerant exhibition ‘El Prado in the streets’, which ends its tour of Extremadura in Trujillo’s Plaza Mayor, surrounded by centuries of history.

The President of the Board, Guillermo Fernández Vara, was present at both acts, along with the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Nuria Flores, accompanied by the host mayor, José Antonio Redondo, as well as the provincial deputy, Fernando Grande.

The first visit took place to this museum dedicated to the Extremaduran artist Jaime de Jaraíz who, after years of work, has finally opened its doors. It is promoted by the Foundation that bears the name of the artist, chaired by his son, Jaime Jaraíz Lozano. In his intervention, he highlighted the collaboration of the institutions and, above all, the support of Charo Cordero, who was president of the Provincial Council of Cáceres. “It’s a dream come true,” he said excitedly.

The municipality also houses ‘El Prado en las calles’, with reproductions of his great works

The museum is made up of 40 works of different formats, divided by years. Some of them have been ceded by the provincial institution and by the Assembly of Extremadura. However, he trusts that, in the future, this museum will house all the main works of the artist, which are now in different institutions.

Fernández Vara highlighted the figure of Jaime de Jaraíz, who is “one of the illustrious Extremadurans.” He remembered that he was a painter, sculptor, composer, as well as a writer. He also pointed out that this museum is one more attraction for Trujillo, for the region and for Spain. “Works of art belong to the artist and to the world,” he said.

After this inauguration, a large part of the entourage moved to the Plaza Mayor, to inaugurate the exhibition ‘El Prado in the streets’, which gives a new cultural and tourist content to the city center. In fact, numerous neighbors came to enjoy their works. In this act, in addition to the political authorities mentioned, were the director of the Prado Museum, Miguel Falomir, and the president of the Fundación Iberdrola España, Fernando García.

The sample is made up of 50 photographic reproductions of the most emblematic paintings of the Madrid museum.

Miguel Falomir highlighted the framework in which the sample is located, such as the Trujillo square, a heritage reference of the first order. For his part, the president of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation pointed out that supporting art is part of his DNA. “We support art that is for everyone, that does not have partitions, that is open and maintains an open relationship between the citizen and the works, and that is achieved in this exhibition,” he added. He will be in Trujillo until October 16.
