Trujillo The illusion to promote futsal, with great response

The illusion of four young people, hours of work and a lot of futsal for two weekends. The result of this sum has been the satisfaction for the work done, beyond the success of the champion teams. It has been about the celebration of the 24-hour tournaments ‘Ciudad de Trujillo’ of this sports modality, with the support of the City Council and with the collaboration of the Trujillo Futsal Sports Association.

The first of these tournaments took place on July 9 and 10, in the absolute category, with the participation of 15 teams and the second was this weekend, in the base category, with 32 formations. All this has caused hundreds of people to mobilize, not only on the playing field of the Trujillo sports center, but also in the stands, especially in the semifinals and finals. In addition to the good game, a bar contributed to this good attendance, to mitigate the intense heat of the last few days, as well as food.

The main ‘culprits’ of these initiatives have been Manuel Beato, Javier Redondo, Javier Jiménez and Enrique Cancho. The latter is also the president of the Trujillo futsal team. All of them, sports fans and good friends, had in mind for a long time to carry out these 24-hour tournaments and above all, to recover the absolute. However, the pandemic caused it to have had to be delayed until this year. In the end, they decided to take the final step at the beginning of the year and just before Easter they began with the organization, details Cancho, who has been the main referee in lower categories. “With friends everything goes better” indicates this person in charge.

His partner Javier Jiménez insists that one of the main objectives has been to promote futsal in the city of Trujillo, more so now with the creation of the sports association, which entered the competition this past year. “This way we can make people enjoy watching these matches and the association has more subscribers,” he details. In fact, he assures that the stands were full of public.

The absolute category was divided into different groups so that the best teams qualified for the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. The competition began on Saturday morning and the matches lasted until seven in the morning on Sunday. After a break, the matches resumed at eleven o’clock and ended at night, proclaiming themselves champion ‘La Huerta de Charly’, against Santa Rosa.

Javier Jiménez highlights the high level shown by the participating teams. He highlights that there have even been players from the first division of futsal, some from the second and many from the second B. There have also been participants from the third division of soccer, who have had to adapt to this modality. There were teams from very different places and even some from Madrid.

The winning team got 2,000 euros, while the second got 600. In addition, there were other prizes for the top scorer, the best player in the tournament, as well as Trujillo and the best goalkeeper. Jiménez insists that thanks to the support of the City Council, as well as the sponsors, these awards have been given. Without them it would not have been impossible. This municipal support has also meant that the participants have been able to access the municipal swimming pool.

Without a rest

Although they are happy with the development of the tournaments, these organizers recognize that it is a great job. In this sense, Jiménez points out that, in the 24 hours of the absolute category, they did not have time to sleep, since they were not only dedicated to the games, to the bureaucratic aspects and to the bar. During the hours of rest, they continued with the organizational issues, as well as with the cleaning of the stands due to the dirt generated, among other details. Such was the intense work that first weekend that they needed more staff.

Almost without rest and still ‘savoring’ the results of last weekend, these promoters carried out in recent days the 24-hour futsal tournament from junior to junior. The smaller categories played on Saturday morning, while the cadets and youth played their matches in the afternoon. Already, yesterday, the finals took place, always very showy. The winners obtained trophies up to juveniles and from infants, they also had cash prizes. Jiménez points out that there have been participants from the area, as well as from more remote towns.

Both Jiménez and Cancho emphasize that, if the first tournament was to encourage the population to become fond of this sport, these 24 hours in the base category have tried to promote this modality in young people.

The money taken out has served to pay all the expenses and to be able to save for next year. And it is that these organizers do not doubt that next summer these appointments will not be lacking and, if they can, they will have better economic prizes.
