WASHINGTON – Former US President, Donald Trump, described this Saturday as an “old crow” to the leader of the Republican minority in the Senate, Mitch McConnell; while reiterating his criticism of his vice president, Mike Pence, for not having defended the idea of fraud in the November 2020 elections.

Trump, who was president between 2017 and 2021, thus replied to Pence, who this Friday in Orlando (Florida) argued that the former president was “wrong” since as vice president “he had no right to annul the elections.”

“I just saw Mike Pence’s statement about the fact that he had no right to do anything about the Electoral Vote Count, beyond being an automatic transmission belt for Old Raven Mitch McConnell to get Biden elected president as soon as possibleTrump said in a note.

In fact, the former president insisted on his accusations without evidence, already refuted by the US justice system, indicating that “the position of Vice President is not an automatic transmission belt if there are obvious signs of electoral fraud or irregularities“.

“A great opportunity was lost, but not forever, and meanwhile our country is going to hell,” he added.

The exchange of statements shows the open war within the Republican party: with Trump’s supporters, on the one hand; and the more traditional apparatus of the conservatives.

Pence, in his speech, interspersed optimistic messages about the results that the Republicans will obtain in the next electoral appointments with a defense of his role on January 6, 2021 and harsh criticism of the Joe Biden Administration.

Hours after the assault on Capitol Hill by a Trump mob, which left five dead and more than a hundred police officers injured, Pence presided over the legislative session in which Joe Biden’s victory in the electoral college was certified by a wide margin.

Last week, Trump said he would pardon the crimes of those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 if he returned to power after the 2024 election, a suggestion that was quickly pushed back by members of his own party.

The former president, who has not yet announced whether he will run in the 2024 elections, has repeatedly rejected the prosecution of those who have been accused of violently attacking the Capitol to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 elections.
