The flight path seemed to indicate the pilot was trying to land on Collins Avenue before crashing into the bridge and a vehicle.

At least 25 fire rescue units were on the scene. A fire as well as a huge plume of  smoke can be seen rising from the debris.

Footage from the scene shows the plane in pieces on the causeway bridge, while a red minivan is completely destroyed nearby.

Florida residents can been seen standing on the outer edges of the bridge as black heavy smoke billowed from the small plane as the smashed up aircraft burned. Smoke could be reportedly seen for miles.

Charred remains of the plane are left, with most of the exterior gone. Most of what remains are the wings.

Nearby drivers stood outside their cars and watched as a public bus and several cars were stuck on the bridge.

Fire crews were able to put the fire out, but the bridge still remains closed as the damaged car and plane still remain there.

The bridge is closed from Sunny Isles Beach and Bal Harbour, police reported. Authorities said to expect heavy delays.

Miami-Dade Police have announced around 3pm that Collins Avenue has been completely shut down.

Bal Harbour Manager Jorge Gonzalez said traffic will be heavily affected. He told the Miami Herald: ‘It is going to be a challenge for some time. The traffic grid is very fragile. An accident like this will have repercussions throughout Northeast Dade.’
