Promoting culture through a study program, immersed in a university environment and aimed at people over 55 years of age is one of the objectives of the University Classrooms of Experience (AUNEx) of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche. East educational project about the University to the elderly and it expands the relationships between the students of the AUNEx themselves with the young university students. During this academic year, despite the circumstances caused by the health crisis, the UMH has firmly committed to its program for the elderly and has adapted the teaching content of the AUNEx to the online format, through the Virtual Classroom.
How to sign up for the courses?
The program of the University Classrooms of the Experience of the UMH will begin in February 2021 and consists of a total of 20 courses, ranging from Contemporary Art, Cinema or Music to Sociology, Botany, Emotional Intelligence or the History of ancient Egypt.
The AUNEx students can choose the different courses in which they are interested and design your own itinerary. To do this, you must send a mail before December 10 with the selected courses to the address: [email protected] Through the UMH Virtual Classroom, people enrolled in the program will receive live classes, tutorials, questionnaires or job proposals and they will be able to interact with the rest of their classmates.
The program of the AUNEx of the UMH It has turned 20 in the 2019/2020 academic year and for its classrooms more than 9,000 people have passed. Continuing with the multicampus philosophy that the University reaches all corners of the province, the University Experience Classrooms program is taught at the headquarters of Altea, there, El Campello, Elche, Benidorm and Orihuela, thanks to the essential collaboration of the town halls of the municipalities involved. In addition, the AUNEx have the collaboration of CaixaBank and the Fundación la Caixa.
What is the objective of AUNEx?
The University Experience Classrooms are part of SABIEx, the comprehensive program for people over 55 years of the UMH for the active and healthy aging, constituted with the purpose of expanding and continuing the work that the UMH has been doing for 20 years to turn the University into a benchmark in studies and actions aimed at older people.
The AUNEx are the central axis of the social responsability of the UMH with the elderly of the environment, avoiding his loneliness, training them and, ultimately, helping Improve your quality of life.
With the AUNEx program, the UMH aligns itself with the commitment of some of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Specifically with objectives # 3 of Health and Well-being; 4 # Quality education; # 10 Reduction of Inequalities; and # 17 of Partnerships to Achieve the Goals.

A total of 55 Winter Courses for the whole society
‘Musical journalism’, ‘Introduction to nanobiotechnology’, ‘Online communication and social media management’ or ‘Self-control techniques, stress management, relaxation, concentration and vitality’ are some of the 55 Winter Courses offered by Miguel University Hernández (UMH) from Elche.
The Courses, open to the whole of society, are taught between December and May 2021 and, due to Covid-19, most will be developed in modality online.
The UMH Winter Courses, as in each edition, are articulated as a complementary learning and debate forum, as a meeting activity between the university community and society. Its theme and contents are complementary to university disciplines and they offer perspectives that are not generally addressed in other academic offering formats.
The programming also considers the training needs of different institutions and organizations in the public sector, the private sector and civil society that make up the social fabric in which the UMH is integrated.
In this edition, a funded course package which have free fees and that are possible thanks to the collaboration of the Town Councils of Almoradí, Crevillent, Benissa, Elche, Pego, Petrer, Teulada and Torrevieja, as well as thanks to the Equality Unit of the UMH, dependent on the Vice President for Inclusion, Sustainability and Sports. This latest collaboration responds to the will of the University to continue with the commitment to training and sensitization in the field of equality and the diversity.
The Winter Courses have a duration of 25 hours, except the theater ones, which have 12 hours. They will be credited with a Certificate issued by UMH, which will be broadcast in electronic format and will include the program and the skills developed with your participation. Likewise, they can be recognized by the student body as ECTS credits.
