“The War of Two Queens,” the fourth book in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Blood and Ash fantasy series, debuted at no. 1 on the USA TODAY Best Selling Books list this week. It’s the second No. 1 for Armentrout, whose novel “The Crown of Gilded Bones” debuted at No. 1 in 2021. Here’s a look at what else is making waves on this week’s list.
Go, Dolly Go!: country-legend Dolly Parton‘s collaboration with bestselling author James Patterson continues to see impressive sales. Their novel “Run, Rose, Run” lands at no. 2 on this week’s bestsellers list, falling just one spot from its No. 1 debut.
“I always thought I’d write a novel, or a mystery, at some point in my life, because I do love to tell stories,” Parton told The Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network. “I thought, ‘This would be a wonderful opportunity to do that.'”
In “Run, Rose, Run,” Patterson and Parton introduce readers to AnnieLee Keyes, an aspiring singer-songwriter who pulls herself — literally — out of Nashville’s gutters with a golden voice and heart-piercing pen.

In addition to the novel, Parton released an album for “Run, Rose, Run,” which channels the trials of AnnieLee, Ruthanna and other characters from the book. And it is not just musical collaboration: Parton and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine media company are teaming up to produce a film adaptation.
While this is the first book of fiction by the country singer to appear on USA TODAY’s Best Selling Books list, Parton has landed on the list three previous times for the nonfiction books “Dolly” (1994), “Dream More” (2012) and “Dolly Parton, Songteller” (2020).
Shedding light on Ukraine: “Lessons From the Edge,” by the former ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, debuted at No. 40 on this week’s bestsellers list. It appears Yovanovitch’s memoir is the right book at the right time as readers try to make sense of what’s happening in Ukraine.
In her memoir, Yovanovitch, who was recalled from her post and became a key witness in the 2019 Trump impeachment hearings, offers timely insights. A child of parents who survived Soviet and Nazi terror, Yovanovitch has a personal stake in the preservation of democracy.

Yovanovitch’s memoir is one among several books written by Ukrainians, Russians, journalists and academics people are reading right now to help clarify the deep-seated conflict between Russia and Ukraine, making sense of Putin’s authoritarianism, Ukraine’s fight for independence and the far-reaching geopolitical forces at play that threaten Western democracy.
