The Syracuse basketball team takes on Virginia Tech at 6 pm Saturday in the Cassell Coliseum.

Joe Girard nails his fourth 3-pointer of the night to bring Syracuse within three points.

Bourama Sidibe picks up his third foul of the game and Anselem comes back into the game. Syracuse is down by nine as Buddy Boeheim drains a 3-pointer from the wing. He makes another 3 from the top of the key to bring SU within six points.

Timeout at 4:01 p.m.: Virginia Tech 43, Syracuse 37.

Joe Girard has made two 3′s coming out of the halftime break. Syracuse trails by six at the first half timeout of the second half.

Anselem tips in a miss by Cole Swider to bring Syracuse within seven points, but Maddox banks in a 3-pointer while getting fouled by Torrence. Maddox makes the free throw for a four-point play, giving Virginia Tech an 11-point lead.

Timeout at 52.8 seconds: Virginia Tech 35, Syracuse 26.

Mutts connects on a 3-point to give Virginia Tech a 7-point lead, the largest of the game. Syracuse commits its eighth turnover of the game, which leads to another Virginia Tech basket.

Timeout at 3:22: Virginia Tech 31, Syracuse 26.

Virginia Tech takes a 5-point lead with a 7-0 run heading into the final half timeout of the first half.

Boeheim connects on a deep 3 from the top of the key and Syracuse has a two-point lead. Cattoor picks up his second foul of the night as he reaches in on Buddy Boeheim. Syracuse is called for a five-second call and Jim Boeheim appears upset at Benny Williams.

Benny Williams almost threw down a massive slam, but can’t get it to go down. Buddy Boeheim scores for the first time tonight as he connects on a mid-range jumper.

Timeout at 7:17: Syracuse 21, Virginia Tech 20.

Girard make his first 3-pointer of the game to give Syracuse a 21-20 lead. He has seven points and has surpassed the 1,000 career-point mark.

Sidibe picks up his second foul and Anselem checks back in at center for Syracuse. Benny Williams is also set to check in for the first time tonight.

Symir Torrence has checked into the game for Joe Girard. Torrence banks in a floater as the shot-clock winds down to bring Syracuse within two points.

Timeout at 11:20: Virginia Tech 17, Syracuse 16.

Anselem picks up his first foul and N’Guessan splits a pair of free throws. Swider connects on a turnaround mid-range jumper. Syracuse center Bourama Sidibe will check in at the next whistle.

Aluma scores in the post, but Jimmy Boeheim drains Syracuse’s first 3-pointer to bring the Orange within four. Boeheim makes another triple and Syracuse trails 13-12.

Cattoor drains a deep 3-pointer form the top of the key, but Frank Anselem counters with an easy dunk. Cattoor makes another 3, but Girard connects on a deep 2 on the other end. Cattoor continues his hot streak with his third consecutive triple.

The sold-out crowd at Cassell Coliseum is roaring, but Cole Swider gets things started for Syracuse with a mid-range jumper to give the Orange an early 2-0 lead.

Syracuse’s starters: Joe Girard, Buddy Boeheim, Cole Swider, Jimmy Boeheim, and Frank Anselem.

Tonight’s game is the first time all season that Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim will use a different starting lineup due to Jesse Edwards’ season-ending wrist injury.

It’s the first career start for Anselem, a sophomore center, who averages 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds this season.

Virginia Tech’s starters: Nahiem Alleyne, Hunter Cattoor, Storm Murphy, Keve Aluma and Justyn Mutts.
