Von Miller trade details: Rams acquire Broncos pass rusher for draft picks

Von Miller is no longer a member of the Broncos. Denver traded him from the AFC to the NFC after agreeing to a trade with the Rams.

Miller spent the first 10 years of his career with the Broncos. He was the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft behind Cam Newton and quickly paid dividends for Denver.

During his career with the Broncos, Miller played 142 regular season games. He had a franchise record of 110.5 sacks and was an eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time AP All-Pro.

Miller was also a critical part of the Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 winning team. He had five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception and was named Super Bowl MVP after recording 2.5 sacks against the Newton Panthers.

Now, Miller will join forces with the Rams. He will play alongside Aaron Donald in a Los Angeles defense that was already averaging 3.1 sacks per game, the second-most in the NFL.

Adding Miller will make the Rams even more contenders in the tough NFC West, but what did they give up for him? Here are all the details about the Von Miller trade.

From Miller Trade Details

  • Rams receive: From Miller
  • The broncos receive: 2022 second- and third-round draft picks

The Rams paid a high price to acquire Miller. They turned in their second-round pick and one of their two second-round picks to bring Miller on board.

However, the Rams did not only get Miller on this deal. The Broncos have agreed to pay nearly all of Miller’s remaining salary, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

That will allow the Rams, who had just over $ 5 million in cap space before the deal, according to OverTheCap.com – easily accept Miller’s deal. The acquisition of multiple picks from Day 2 likely made the Broncos more willing to accept that trade-off.

2022 Rams draft picks

The Rams have made quite a few trades over the past calendar year that have involved draft picks. As such, many wonder how many picks from the 2022 draft they have left.

The answer is not so many.

The Rams won’t pick until the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, as they sent their first-round pick to the Lions in the Matthew Stafford trade and sacrificed their second-round pick in the Miller trade. The team had two third-round picks as they got a compensatory pick for the hiring of Brad Holmes as their general manager by the Lions, but now they have one.

Los Angeles also traded its fourth-round pick in the Brandin Cooks deal and its sixth-round pick in the Sony Michel trade. As such, they only have three picks from Day 3, two of which are in the seventh round, and four picks in total.

So to recap, these are the picks the Rams have left from their 2022 draft stash.

When will Von Miller make his debut with the Rams?

Since the trade happened so early in the week, Miller could make his Los Angeles debut as early as his Week 9 game against the Titans on “Sunday Night Football.” It will all depend on two things: how quickly you can adapt to the Rams’ system and how healthy you are after missing last week’s game with an ankle injury.

If Miller plays Sunday, he’ll be in the Rams’ carrying rotation right away. He is likely to emerge as a starter against Leonard Floyd, but could take on a more limited role in the rotation with Terrell Lewis until he catches up with his new club.
