The latest fatal shooting in the United States has shocked the world. First for happening in a school, with innocent boys and girls murdered. And second because the shooter had warned several times that he would do it. The social network he used is called Yubo, in Spain it barely has penetration.
An 18-year-old man shot and killed 19 children and 2 adult staff members at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. And according to police, the killer used an app called Yubo to send messages to multiple people before the massacre.
The perpetrator of the crime used the application and spoke to several people through it, according to The New York Times (which bought Wordle a few months ago), including a 15-year-old girl who lives in Germany.

What is Yubo? This is the social network of teenagers
Yubo, originally called Yellow, is an app based in Paris, France, developed by app development company Twelve App. It has had 60 million registrations since its launch in 2015as reported by TechCrunch, of which 20 million since 2020 (pandemic).
The app does not allow users to follow other users or like the content that is posted on it, unlike other social platforms like Instagram or TikTok. Instead, users can add themselves as friends.
Yubo uses a mix of human moderators and tools to moderate content. on the platform, according to the company.
In a December 2020 interview with the YouTube channel Startup Vision TV, Yubo co-founder and CEO Sacha Lazimi stated that the company was “one of the leaders in terms of moderation in real time“, quoting his “very strict guidelines“.
Lazimi said that a Yubo algorithm processes everything visual and textual sent on Yubo to “automatically block any inappropriate behavior“. The app also sends real-time notifications to users to tell them why something they have submitted is dangerous or inappropriate.
The company also uses human moderatorswhich Lazimi called “security specialists“, to review the content that has been reported by users or by Yubo’s algorithm.

To register on Yubo, new users need to provide the app with only their name, date of birth, gender, and a photo. Users must also provide Yubo with their mobile phone numbers to verify their new account.
The app does not require users to share their last name or email address. Users must be over 13 years of age to access the app. Also, teens between the ages of 13 and 17 must get their parents’ permission before registering.
