The Braves started the NLCS by taking a dominant 2-0 lead, and now they will look to do the same in the World Series.
The only difference is that in the NLCS, the first two games were at home. This time, Atlanta beat the Astros in Houston 6-2 in Game 1, putting the home team in a difficult position as the prospect of facing three straight games in Atlanta lingers after Game 2.
The Braves took the bats out early in Game 1, scoring five runs in the first three innings to jump to an early lead. Now, they turn to Max Fried to start Game 2 against Houston right-hander Jose Urquidy.
Fried built a standout campaign in 2020 with a stellar season of 2021 in which he posted a 3.04 ERA in 165.2 innings of work with 158 strikeouts and a 1,087 WHIP. His first two postseason starts were also stellar, as he allowed just two combined runs in 12 innings against the Brewers and Dodgers, with just 11 hits, no walks and 14 strikeouts in both outings. His start in Game 5 against Los Angeles did not go so well, as he allowed five runs in 4.2 innings.
Urquidy also delivered a solid 2021 season for the Astros, as he finished the year with a 3.62 ERA in 107 innings, spanning 20 starts, with 90 strikeouts and just 19 walks allowed. He has only made one appearance this postseason, which came in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. He lasted just 1.2 innings when the Red Sox scored him with six runs, five earned, five hits and two walks. He struck out one.
