The United States will seek a little revenge just days after the new year when they face Finland in the semifinals of the 2021 I IHF World Junior Championship.
In each of the last two tournaments, it was the Finns who sent the Americans home without the final prize of a gold medal: 2020 was in the quarterfinals and 2019 in the game for the gold medal. Eight players return for team U SA from last year and one, goalie Spencer Knight, who is expected to be in the net for the U SA, was on the team for both tournaments.

This will be another battle between two ranked teams with future NHL players littering the roster. The only thing that could give the Americans the advantage is that Finland is one of the most penalized teams in the tournament and the United States has the most efficient power play (8 of 19).
These two teams met in a pre-tournament set-up that saw the Americans win 3-2 backed by two goals from Cole Caufield, but now is the time to start.
” I remember it was our first two games going into the tournament, and both teams were getting familiar,” defender Ryan Johnson said after the United States advanced with a quarter-final victory over the Slovaks. ” I think both teams have progressed. Looking at Finland they look much better, but the same with us as well. I think it will be a good match.”
