WHY 3/4 CARAT DIAMONDS?

There are many factors to consider, from the usual C’s of buying diamonds, from carat size, quality, cut, color and clarity to how much you’ve budgeted for your new ring.

Most people don’t understand, for example, that going from a 1/2 carat diamond to a full carat isn’t simply twice the price. It is often exponential, because 1 carat is much rarer in its finished, faceted form than 1/2 carat, which is much more common. That is why we recommend considering a 3/4 carat diamond ring instead, you’ll get the best of both worlds, between size, rarity, quality, and price. You may even want to consider a little less than the actual 0.75 carat, choosing a 0.70-0.74 carat, which will save you even more money in the end.

GIA was established in 1931 as an independent, nonprofit organization that, according to its website, “protects the gem and jewelry buying public through research, education, and laboratory services.” So whether you shop online or at a local jeweler, you have the security of knowing you’re getting the diamond color, clarity, cut and carat you paid for.

DIAMOND COLOR

Now, just choose the quality you prefer. We typically recommend starting with a G or H color and SI1 or SI2 clarity as a base, then work your way up and down depending on your budget. As you go lower in colors like I, J, or K, expect to see some yellow tints in the diamond vs. GH, which is nearly colorless. If you want a truly flawless diamond color, consider getting a DF Color (colorless) stone.

DIAMOND CLARITY

Color and clarity are generally the most important factors when it comes to quality. Again, we recommend starting with a SI1 or SI2 clarity baseline, which means that “small inclusions” will be visible to the naked eye, although most of these inclusions or blemishes will be barely noticeable to most and are more likely let them be seen under a jewelry box. loupe From there you can move on to VS clarity (very small inclusions) that are only visible with a loupe or VVS clarity which is pretty much top of the line for most retail diamonds.
