Extremadura is today more aware than ever of its horizons, its strengths and the path it has to travel to promote social progress and economic competitiveness. Because it is the knowledge of our reality and our territory that will allow us to guarantee not only growth as a society, but also that we receive from Europe the Structural Funds that we need and so that these are invested in the most profitable way possible for all Extremadurans. . And precisely, the Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization (RIS3) of Extremadura 2021-2027 is the instrument to achieve it. Building that Extremadura that we want from the identification and interconnection of business, scientific, technological, institutional and social resources has long ceased to be a project.
The political efforts that should lead us towards a more competitive and intelligent Extremadura are already a reality. And they must rely on science, technology and research, on generating new opportunities for our companies and consolidating a true industrial transition. All this from respect for our environment, sustainability, integration and digitization, without losing sight of our identity and traditions, biodiversity and our cultural and human heritage.
Extremadura is fully aligned with the specific objectives that Europe sets for the regions as a favorable condition for receiving Funds: to develop and improve our research and innovation capacities and the assimilation of advanced technologies, and to take advantage of the advantages of digitization for citizens, companies, research organizations and public administrations. But also to reinforce sustainable growth, the competitiveness of our SMEs and job creation, improve digital connectivity and demonstrate our ability to specialize, transforming the industry and stimulating entrepreneurship.
Our Smart Specialization Strategy is, in short, the roadmap to make Extremadura a region that produces goods and services with its own brand and high added value, capable of competing in the world. And a place to live and grow professionally and personally. It is our commitment to concentrate public policies and resources on those economic, scientific and technological priorities that allow us to take advantage of our competitive advantages and the opportunities offered by our privileged environment.
For all these reasons, I want to invite people from Extremadura to get to know it up close, to be part of it and to participate on May 12 in the presentation ceremony that we will celebrate in Mérida. An event open to everyone to bring closer both the process of drawing up the strategy and its strategic importance, as well as the political efforts that the Junta de Extremadura has made and is making for its implementation.
Because if we focus on what we are really good at, we will go faster, further, turning technology, science and knowledge into guarantees of our future.
