You are receiving the Wildcat Wednesday email on Thursday due to the tragic incident on campus yesterday afternoon. The Wildcat Family lost Dr. Thomas Meixner, Department Head of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, in yesterday’s shocking events. Our thoughts are with Dr. Meixner’s family, friends, colleagues and students during this difficult time. Compassion is at the core of who we are as Wildcats, and I encourage our Wildcat Wednesday readers to care for yourselves and one another as we grieve the loss of one of our own. FAMILY WEEKEND AT ARIZONA STADIUM
Saturday’s 6 p.m. (MST) home football game against Oregon will anchor Family Weekend on the campus of the University of Arizona. This is a marquee celebration for the Wildcat Family who welcome friends and family to town to showcase what makes Southern Arizona the special place that it is.  We are expecting our biggest home crowd of the year when we take on the Ducks and tickets are moving quickly. If you don’t have your tickets for Saturday, click here to purchase them now. We also have a few key reminders for those coming to Arizona Stadium on Saturday. Please remember to download your mobile tickets and parking passes to your smart device before arriving on campus. Gates to the stadium open 90 minutes prior to kickoff with adjacent parking garages and lots opening eight hours before.

Our home game versus Oregon will also be our Hispanic Heritage Night at the stadium. As part of our department’s annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are partnering with the UA Hispanic Alumni Association, UA Alumni Association, Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives, Adalberto and Ana Guerrero Student Center, the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the UA Office of Government and Community Relations, among others. The UA Hispanic Alumni Tailgate will be inside the Cole and Jeannie Davis Sports Center with local mariachi bands welcoming fans at gates and performing at halftime with the Pride of Arizona marching band. Please joins us on Saturday as we honor our community’s cultural diversity and heritage.

Arizona Athletics continues to enhance the fan experience at Arizona Stadium through feedback, and we would like to hear from you about ways we can continue to improve. We have a survey for fans to provide important feedback regarding football parking and path of travel to home football games. Please click here to fill out this survey. Thank you for your support of Arizona Athletics, and for helping us maintain the first-class fan experience we strive for.

 ATHLETICS STAFF SPOTLIGHT

In addition to highlighting the outstanding student-athletes in our 21 athletic programs in Wildcat Wednesday emails, I like to also spotlight the exceptional staff members who make Arizona Athletics one of the best athletic departments in the nation. Mike Hairgrove is a key member of our facilities team who has spent two decades as an integral part of our day-to-day operations and events. The Pac-12 Network highlighted Mike and his tremendous dedication to supporting our student-athletes in a segment during last weekend’s home game. You can watch this feature on Mike by clicking here. Bear Down Mike! Thank you for everything you do for all our student-athletes, coaches and staff. Thank you for living the Wildcat Way.

COMPLIANCE CORNER

A quick reminder to our valued supporters that any and all NILdeals must involve work performed by our student-athletes. There is still a lot of grey area surrounding NIL, but one of the areas that has been made clear is the quid-pro-quo requirement to these deals. We do request that each deal with our student-athletes is logged in INFLCR.  Additionally, no NIL deal or compensation can be pay for play, and/or contingent upon either enrollment at our institution or an individual maintaining their student-athlete status.

Failure to meet one or more of the guidelines described above can have a negative impact on our student-athletes eligibility ranging anywhere from missing competitions to permanent loss of eligibility. Help us keep our Wildcats competing. For additional NCAA and institutional guidelines you can click the links, check out ArizonaEDGE or reach out to the Compliance Office [email protected].
