The “Celaá law” has just passed the vote in Congress. The text approved this Thursday includes the amendments that had aroused the most criticism among the opposition, such as the suppression of the reference to Spanish as the official language of the State in education; fixing the “Exceptionality” of repetition course or cornering the Religion subject, that will no longer count for grade. These are just three examples in a long list of controversies that will mark the student of the future and the progress of the educational system. These are some of the most important changes, which will forge new students:
Goodbye to spanish
Castilian no longer appears as vehicular language of teaching and as the official language of the State. The role of guarantors of the right to receive education in Spanish and in co-official languages will fall into the hands of the autonomous communities.
I know eliminates “social demand” to open new concerted centers or increase places in existing ones, which, according to concerted education, gives the State total power to plan centers and strips this educational alternative of its role in supporting public education.
In addition, the members may not “receive amounts from families for receiving free education” or impose “the obligation to make contributions to foundations or associations or establish compulsory services, associated with education, that require financial contribution” by the families.
The Religion subject will be voluntary and without mirror material (that is, an alternative subject to choose from) for students. So, whoever does not choose it, will not occupy that time with another subject. In addition, the subject will not count for grade either.
Pass the course with failures
The repetition of the course will be something exceptional. Students will promote from the course when the teaching team considers that the subjects not passed allow them to successfully continue the following course. In addition, the text allows obtaining the Baccalaureate degree with a failed subject or the possibility of completing this stage in three courses instead of the two as has been done so far. This means that students can go from 1st to 2nd with more than two failed subjects instead of repeating. In 2nd grade the suspensions plus those of this course would be taken. In a hypothetical 3rd year they would enroll from the slopes the previous year.
The bill expressly emphasizes sexual education, coeducation and respect for affective-sexual diversity from the age of 6. This will make it possible for the centers to impart content on varied views and not always shared by parents, on sexual identity or gender issues.
Forbidden to segregate
The centers supported partially or totally with public funds will not be able to separate students based on their gender.
It is the novelty of today. PSOE, Podemos, ERC, Junts per Catalunya, Más País and Compromís have added the study, in the subject of Civic and Ethical Values, of the “social role of taxes and fiscal justice.”
The “Defense of the planet” is created to strengthen the affective capacities of the student in their relations with the planet. “History of Democracy” will also be taught from a gender perspective.
