Wolves enter talks for Stuttgart’s 6ft 7in striker Sasa Kalajdzic who was warned off of Man United move by his Austria boss Ralf Rangnick

Wolverhampton Wanderers are in talks with Stuttgart over signing striker Sasa Kalajdzic, talkSPORT understands.

The Austrian No.9 is wanted by Bruno Lage but the two clubs are not close in terms of their valuation of the player and are working to come to a compromise.

The 25-year-old is in his third season in the German Bundesliga, with his first seeing 16 goals in 33 games upon Stuttgart’s promotion to the top flight.

The 6ft 7in forward began making headlines for his dominant performances, but was restricted to just 15 appearances last season with a shoulder injury.

An Austrian international, Kalajdzic was linked with Manchester United earlier in the summer, but was advised off the move by national team boss Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick, who was interim manager of United last season, was asked about a potential move to Old Trafford on Sky Germany.

“It is important that Sasa remains injury-free this season and trains and plays at the highest possible level,” he said.

“If he stays in Stuttgart this season, it will not be detrimental to his development.”

Wolves are in the process of making a concrete attempt to sign the striker though, having dearly suffered for goals over the past two seasons.

Lage’s team managed 38 goals in 38 Premier League games during the last campaign, and only 36 six in the 2020/21 season.

In addition, their joint-top scorers only managed six goals in all competitions last season, only one more than the previous campaign.

It represents a drop off from the previously reliable Raul Jiminez, who scored 27 goals in 2019/20, with Hwang-hee Chan struggling to find the net after his loan move from Leipzig became permanent for £15million this summer.

The Birmingham based side have only one point from their opening three games this season, drawing at home to Fulham in between losses to Leeds and Tottenham.
