While it is not possible to see the world through Roman Reigns’ eyes, you will soon be able to wear his sunglasses.
Reigns has teamed up with Shady Rays, who has created a new sunglasses brand that features his personal tribal tattoo on the arm of the glasses. A portion of each sale is donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a deeply personal cause for Reigns, who is in remission after two experiences with the disease.
“We created something that represents me and my culture,” says Reigns, who is Joe Anoa’i outside the wrestling ring. “This is a product I believe in. In addition, we are contributing on a charitable level through LLS, promoting and raising awareness, doing everything we can to help families in a very difficult time.”
Reigns and Shady Rays collaborated with famous tattoo artist Mike Fatutoa, who used his expertise to embed a piece of the WWE star’s legacy into the sunglasses. Reigns was first drawn to Shady Rays because of CEO Chris Ratterman’s relentless desire to use his product to give back to the less fortunate.
“Shady Rays is using his platform to promote a product and lifestyle with a positive outlook, which is exactly my goal,” says Reigns. “There are all kinds of fights out there. The world and social networks can be very toxic, so it is very important to share positive moments to generate hope. I am very proud to shed light on the good. “
Honesty and authenticity are central elements of Reigns’ life vision. That’s no different from the way he’s modeled his current character in WWE as “The Tribal Chief.” The overriding theme throughout the existence of professional wrestling has been the battle of good versus evil, but Reigns is tweaking the formula with his “Head of the Table” persona.
“Even though the ‘Tribal Chief’ and ‘Table Chief’ may make me look like a bad boy, I’m still very authentic,” says Reigns. “I’m trying to shed a different light on being the best player in WWE. For a long time, the guy in that position was a superhero, someone bulletproof. This is different. Watching the fight and the charge, I thought it might be something that people were connected to. We all come together through adversity, we all come together through struggle. We all understand the fall and the process of getting back up. So that’s what we’re doing, showing a different vision at the highest possible level. “
Reigns is approaching the one-year mark of his reign as universal champion. In that stretch, he has never encountered anyone with the charisma or wit of his current opponent, John Cena, whom he will meet on Saturday at Summer festival.
“There is no denying that John is doing a great job in Hollywood,” says Reigns. “It’s very encouraging to see the way he transitioned and showed off the performing arts skills that he learned in WWE. Come on Summer festivalWhen he’s in the ring with me, John is going to want to stay in Hollywood. “
Cena made a surprising return to WWE in the past month. Money in the bank pay-per-view, where he interrupted Reigns during a post-match promotion following his in-ring triumph against Edge. The moment was sensational, perfectly executed by Cena, as well as Reigns, who had a look of pure despondency on his face as he watched Cena parade around his ring.
“Once his music hit, I knew there would be a magnifying glass on us, which is exactly what you want,” says Reigns. “I knew that moment was going to mean a lot. And it’s been like this since we turned to Summer festival.
“John is sharp with his insults, he’s a great live performer and a master of the crowd, but not everything he says is true. I don’t say things just to get a great reaction, I get a great reaction because people connect with what I say. There are facts in all my promotions, and we constantly present a compelling narrative. No one can do what I’m doing right now. “
An 11-year-old pro, Reigns has never been more effective than he is now. In terms of presentation and efficiency, you are connecting all the cylinders. Reigns has the most intense matches, really gripping interviews, and makes every segment on screen feel hugely important. Along with Paul Heyman and The Usos, he is aligned with the most talented ensemble in all of wrestling. Reigns is in the midst of a better time not having a twilight in sight, yet he remains keenly aware that there is a greater purpose in his life than what he achieves in WWE.
“I enjoy the entertainment and the whole philosophy of WWE, putting smiles on faces, and that became even more intimate after I shared my story and my fight with leukemia,” says Reigns. “I love big games and the adrenaline of a live mic and blowing up the crowd, creating memories with The Usos and Paul, but nothing compares to being with these kids and being able to positively influence their day. That is the true purpose of all this. I am fortunate to be able to make that kind of difference in the world, which extends beyond my career. That is the purpose of my life. “
Now 36, the former college football player turned wrestling star has become a beacon of hope and perseverance for children, especially those facing a cancer diagnosis. Unexpectedly, this role manifested itself organically. As a father, Reigns always took pride in raising his five children, although he never expected to be in a position to give voice and strength to children around the world.
“I have a connection with children from all over the world,” says Reigns. “That’s why I shared my story and why I wanted to do it honestly. If there was someone who could connect with my story, I thought that would be great. Then I was lucky enough to be able to return and continue to pursue my dream, and I felt that it was a pivotal opportunity to share a positive success story. I have a responsibility to drive those positive stories and be a positive force for the young people who go through it. “
Her passion for inspiring others comes through every time she is around a child.
“I always had the goal and aspiration to do something special, first in soccer and then in WWE,” says Reigns. “I never knew how my life would fit together, but I have been blessed. God has looked my way and I am in a position where my family is happy and healthy, I can protect them and I have been blessed with the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others. That is why it is very important to shed light on consciousness.
“There have been so many advances in blood cancer drugs and oral chemotherapy, which makes the process more comfortable for patients and their families. Much of it is for adults, so there is still constant work to improve it for children. “
While he is healthy and successful right now, a deep look at his journey shows how he constantly rose above struggles, doubts, and even illness. He hopes his partnership with Shady Rays will help raise awareness of LLS.
“The mission behind Shady Rays is real and that is why I am connecting with them,” says Reigns. And this is so profound. We all have a struggle, but it is worth being here in this life and in this world. I am very grateful for being here and I hope that everyone continues to find new ways to face all the adversities that they have conquered in their lives ”.
