Xiaomi has new flagships. The Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro are already official and are ready to become powerful candidates for the best mobile of the year, with the permission of the 12S Ultra model. The S versions are perhaps not the most groundbreaking, but they are an evolution that improves some of the weaknesses of the previous generation and serve to offer the latest technology available on the market.
The Chinese manufacturer is synonymous with power and access to the latest components. With the new Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor is trained, a chip with the surname ‘Plus’ that serves as the basis for this new Xiaomi 12S range which also opens its alliance with Leica in the photographic section.

With Qualcomm’s ‘Plus’ chip and camera signed by Leica
The new Xiaomi 12S and Xiaomi 12S Pro have a great relationship with their predecessors, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro. Among them they are also quite similar, differing in the size of the screen and especially in the photographic section.
The Xiaomi 12S arrives with a 6.28-inch AMOLED panel with FullHD resolution, while the Pro model goes up to 6.73″ with 2K resolution. Both offer a refresh rate of 120 Hz and in the case of the latter, an LTPO panel is chosen.
This generation introduces the latest Qualcomm and MediaTek processors, the latter reaching a specific version of the Xiaomi 12S Pro. We will see the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 in both, a chipset with cores up to 3.2 GHz, manufactured in 4 nanometers, which promises 10% more power and 30% less consumptioncompared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Accompanying the new processors we have up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and storage of up to 256 GB. As for the battery, the new Xiaomi will offer 4,500 and 4,600 mAh respectively, with a fast charging up to 120W that sets them apart from most of their competitors. As Xiaomi explains, the device has improved its autonomy thanks to the efficiency of the processor.
On a photographic level, the new Xiaomi 12S arrive with the signature of Leica. After a period together with Huawei, the classic photography brand bets on Xiaomi to complement the new flagships. A collaboration where Xiaomi explains that “the result is very different” from what they had before.
The Xiaomi 12S incorporates a Sony IMX707 50 megapixel sensor, along with two additional 13-megapixel wide-angle sensors and a 5-megapixel telemacro. In the case of the Pro model, it bets again on that 50 megapixel sensor from Sony, but it is complemented by two other sensors of the same number of megapixels, for the wide angle and the telephoto lens.
