The International Livestock Fair of Zafra and 569 Traditional of San Miguel will be inaugurated today Thursday with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and the President of the Junta de Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, among other authorities. The act will begin at 12:00 in the Central Pavilion of the Fairgrounds.

This fair had not been held for three years, one of the most massive events in Extremadura, as we know it due to the pandemic. In 2020, the decision was made to suspend the face-to-face fair, although virtual meetings were held. 2021 did have a livestock and professional event with face-to-face activities and livestock on the ships, in addition to a new virtual fair, but no commercial or recreational fair was held.

It is in this edition when the FIG recovers normality and activity in all its aspects.

In the facilities you can see almost 2,000 head of cattle and 600 exhibitors

Until next Tuesday, October 4, almost 2,000 head of cattle will pass through the fairgrounds for exhibition and sale, and more than 600 industrial and commercial exhibitors.

The sample is completed with a total of eight technical conferences, which will deal with issues related to the pig, the retinto, the sheep, computer improvements or feed, among other topics.

In terms of livestock, in this edition of the Fair there will be 22 livestock breeds, which from last Monday until yesterday afternoon were arriving at their respective warehouses: nine cattle, six sheep, four goats, two pig and Purebred Spanish horses.

In the cows, the Aberdeen Angus breed, originally from Scotland, and the Saler from France stand out as a novelty.

The traditional national morphological contests of the different breeds, and the official auctions, which will be on the 3rd for cattle and 4th for sheep, are also scheduled. As a novelty, this edition of the FIG will feature the meeting called ‘Merino World’ (for four days), promoted by the Merino Livestock Association, in which activities will be carried out to promote the meat, wool and milk of this race.

Regarding the Trade Fair, there are 6,000 square meters of indoor stands and about 50,000 square meters outdoors.

There will be about 600 commercial exhibitors, of which 425 are located in the pavilions and marquees; and another 149 vendors of handicrafts and accessories in other areas of the enclosure.

The mayor of Zafra and president of the Fair Entity, José Carlos Contreras, assured in the official presentation of this event that he is convinced that it will be “one of the best years”, in which Zafra, with a population close to 17,000 inhabitants expects to receive more than a million visitors. Hence, the Local Security Board has established more than 1,000 troops, mainly from the Civil Guard, to ensure their safety. “It is going to be a very powerful fair, it shows in the atmosphere and Zafra is ready to host once again the most important livestock fair in Spain and one of the best in all of Europe,” said the mayor, who predicts good prospects for both business as public.
