Migadu pricing

Migadu charges one flat price per account, from $19 a year on Micro to $99 a month on Maxi. Every plan includes unlimited mailboxes and addresses, so the price doesn't change when you add people. What changes between plans is how much mail the account can send and receive each day, and how much it can store.

The limits cover the whole account, not each mailbox. Migadu lets you go up to 25% over a daily limit. Past that, incoming mail waits until the next day and outgoing mail is rejected. Storage limits are soft: Migadu says mail never bounces because storage is full. Paying yearly saves at least a month against monthly billing, and there's a 14-day refund window.

Does Migadu have a free plan?

No. Migadu used to offer a free plan, and Micro replaced it. There's a free trial with no credit card needed, though Migadu doesn't say how long it lasts. Micro is also missing some features of the bigger plans, including access for more than one administrator.

Digismak is free during early access. Receiving works on Cloudflare's free plan, and sending from your domain needs Cloudflare's Workers Paid plan at $5 a month, paid to Cloudflare.

Migadu vs Digismak: sending and receiving limits

The two count differently. Migadu sets a daily limit for the whole account. Digismak runs on Cloudflare's plan, which includes 3,000 sent emails a month and charges $0.35 per 1,000 after that, with unlimited receiving. Digismak adds its own limits per person: up to 50 recipients per email, and up to 200 people a day.

Here's what that looks like for a busy team. Ten people sending 15 emails each is 150 emails in a day. That's over Mini's 100 a day, even with the 25% allowance (125), so this team needs Standard at $290 a year. On Digismak, 150 a day over 20 working days is 3,000 emails a month, which costs $5 that month.

At the small end, Micro is cheaper than Digismak: $19 a year against $60. It suits a team that sends up to 20 emails a day and receives up to 200. If a busy address like support@ takes the account past 200 a day plus the 25% allowance, the rest waits until the next day. Digismak doesn't limit receiving.

Migadu webmail, mail apps and phones

Migadu's webmail is at webmail.migadu.com. It also works with mail apps over IMAP (imap.migadu.com, port 993), POP (port 995) and SMTP (port 465). Basic CalDAV and CardDAV cover calendars and contacts. Migadu doesn't mention an app of its own; its guides cover Apple Mail on iOS, and Outlook and Gmail on Android.

Digismak is an inbox in the browser, and nothing else. It has no IMAP, POP or SMTP, so it doesn't connect to Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird, and it has no calendar or contacts. The inbox groups mail into conversations and blocks images from senders until you allow them. On a phone, you use the same inbox in the phone's browser. Setting up Digismak

Digismak runs on your own Cloudflare account, so setup happens there, through an API token you create and can delete any time. Here's how the pieces fit on Cloudflare email hosting.

1. Check your domain

   Enter it on Digismak. We read its DNS and current email setup. If it already gets mail through Migadu or another provider, setup tells you and waits for you to confirm the switch.

2. Connect Cloudflare

   Create an API token limited to that one domain and paste it in.

3. Let setup run

   Digismak turns on Email Routing, adds the MX and SPF records and turns on Email Sending with DKIM. It adds DMARC if you have none, then sends a test email through the whole path. It usually takes a few minutes.

4. Add your team

   Give each person an address and add shared ones like hello@. Nobody sets up a mail app.

What to know before choosing either

Migadu

• It describes itself as “a small bootstrapped, independent Swiss company”. Its servers are in France.
• Support depends on the plan: best effort on Micro, office hours on Mini and Standard, priority 24x7 on Maxi. There's no phone support and no SLA by default.
• It's for human email only, with no bulk or transactional sending. It refuses free domain extensions, and its own pros and cons page lists no two-factor sign-in for mailboxes.

Digismak

• It's in early access, and free while that lasts. The Cloudflare plan is paid to Cloudflare either way.
• Your domain's DNS must be on Cloudflare. Moving it there is free.
• It's browser only, with no IMAP, POP or SMTP, and no calendar or contacts.
• It doesn't import old mail yet.
• Outgoing attachments can be up to 3.5 MB per email.

Who should pick Migadu, and who should pick Digismak

Pick Migadu if your team uses Apple Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird or a phone mail app, or wants calendars and contacts alongside mail. Pick Micro if you send and receive little mail, since at $19 a year it costs less than Digismak, and Maxi if you want 24x7 support. It's also the easier choice if your domain isn't on Cloudflare.

Pick Digismak if your domain is on Cloudflare and your team works in one browser inbox, with shared addresses several people answer. It fits teams that send more than Mini's 100 a day, because sends past 3,000 a month cost $0.35 per 1,000 rather than a bigger plan. It also fits teams that receive a lot of mail, since receiving is unlimited. Setup adds the mail records and DKIM signing for you, in your own account.
